I went to the junkyard, and of course I bought something.

Now I bet you’re wondering what this is. It isn’t very big, and it’s a bit rusty. It’s a licence plate holder/fuel cap cover. Why would I need one of these? Let me explain. G-bodies have a fuel flap that stays down only if you wedge your gas cap in the hinge. The problem with this is that, apart from going through plastic caps like it’s going out of style, it hurls your cap underneath your car sometimes. The B-bodies had a fuel door that went down, and stayed down. It’s a bolt-up to the g-body. For $5, you’d be stupid not to buy one of these.

I see you watched RCR’s GN video too.... I wonder if it’ll bolt up to a Trans Am as well...

It looks like it could be. Would you like me to take some measurements for you?

Sure, if you could measure the mounting holes... I think behind the bracket on mine is the plate that holds the spring and mounts to the car. I just don’t remember how wide it is.

I’m glad you explained it, because there are a lot of people around here who are too young to remember how you used to have to flip down the license plate to gas up.

Thanks! Once I dig out my parts again (if it ever warms up ‘round here) I’ll see if one will work.

Odd. I use the fuel nozzle to hold mine open, then just set the cap off to the side of the bracket.
